Window Treatments That Will Modernize Your Interior Style

COVID-19 has completely turned how we think about our houses and homes on its head. Spending so much time at home over the last year has caused “a home improvement boom” over the last 12 months. Homeowners are taking this opportunity to make their home exactly how they want it. Remodeling a house isn’t always cheap, though. Even repainting your home can cost thousands of dollars. Major structural updates can cost tens of thousands of dollars or more! Window treatments are an easy and cost-effective way to update your home’s interior style.

Here are some things to keep in mind to re-invigorate your interior design with window treatments!

Interior Window Shades

Adding some form of window treatment to an interior window is one of the easiest and least expensive ways to totally rejuvenate your space. Even better, the window treatments you choose can range from aesthetic to practical. Either will help you enjoy your space to the fullest.

Consider some kind of bold print drapery if you want to add some spice to your interior design. Or you could go with some sort of slatted blinds if you’re looking for greater finesse and control over how much sunlight you let into your room.

You could even go so far as to install some blackout shades for your home theater or media room. It’ll be almost like going to the movie theater in your own living room!

Sheer Curtains

It’s nice to have some in-between options when it comes to window treatments. Surely there must be a stage between pitch black and naked windows? Sometimes you don’t want to live in a cave but you also don’t want to have to wear sunglasses indoors.

Sheer curtains or drapery is an easy way to have the best of all worlds. Gauzy, nearly transparent drapes or curtains is a way to filter the light that enters the room. It adds some magic and wonder to the space at the same time, while also helping to regulate the light.

Nothing says romance quite so much as ethereal white drapery rustling in the breeze!

Earthy Blinds

Let’s be real, we’ve all spent more time indoors this last year than we would like. Probably more than is healthy, even. After 18 months of staring at the same four walls, we may be internally screaming to touch grass and get some dirt beneath our feet.

This means it’s the perfect time to incorporate some earthy textures into your interior design scheme. Even better style, blinds made out of organic materials have been trending for a number of years now. This means your redesign is practically guaranteed to be in style while updating your space at the same time.

White Shutters

Minimalism as a design trend has been in for a number of years. It’s a staple of everything from interior design showrooms to home decor magazines. There are countless minimalist Pinterest moodboards. There are probably thousands of minimalism Instagram accounts you can follow.

The minimalist design trend is the little black dress of interior design. It always looks good, for one thing. It’s also a way to broadcast elegance and class without having to be boastful or brash.

White shutters are a window treatment that are perfect for minimalist design schemes. If you’re going for the classic all-white look, clean white shutters will automatically enhance the monochromatic aesthetic. If you’re going for more of a duo-chrome look, white shutters balance black furniture and accessories quite nicely.

You can customize your shutters in other ways, too, to draw out different design tendencies. You might go for shutters with thick slats that are spaced far apart for more of a naturalistic look.

Or you could get shutters that are closer together if you’re going for a blackout effect.

Awnings

Here’s another way you can fine-tune how much light gets into a room. It’s also a way to create some additional space for lounging and recreation outside your home. Window awnings bring extra shade to your yard or property during the sunny summer months.

They also provide additional rain protection and protection from the elements during more inclement weather.

Window awnings can also be had in any color, pattern, or fabric. This means you can regularly change your style and design scheme whenever the mood should strike.

For maximal impact, try getting a few variants of awnings in different seasonal colors. If you like somewhere where the trees change color in the fall, consider an awning in warm, rich golds, reds, and oranges.

You could go for more vibrant or tropical colors in the warm-weather months, as well. You could even draw out other features you’d like to draw attention to, like your garden beds or a swimming pool.

Updating your window treatments can revitalize your interior style in so many ways. It can completely overhaul your space in so many ways, without having to rip up any floors or tear down any walls.

Of course, cosmetics are just one reason why you should update your window treatments. It can help you save money on utilities and keep your home a more pleasant temperature, year-round. You get style and substance when you update your window treatments!
